GMCS Batch 25 (December, 2014)

Hello friends !!!

I am going to share my GMCS experience at Ahmadabad branch. I am learning English so don't take this seriously. Although suggestions and recommendations are most welcome and appreciated.

To enjoy the GMCS there are two basic conditions :

One is the batch mates and

Second one is the mindset with curiosity !!!

Day 1

Faculty : Deepak Makwana

With a very few known faces, first day was started with prayer. First discussion was on why job or business after becoming a CA. 

Arguments in favor of job were

• Instant cash flow
• No family background for business 
• Business took time to grow
• Want to give service

Arguments in favor of business were

• To continue family business
• To enjoy independence
• Give employment 
• Take risk

Finally comment from sir

Business is like aeroplane and job is like other vehicle. Initially other vehicle runs fast than the aeroplane but after that no other vehicle can beat the aeroplane. So think big grow big.

In life you must have 3 plans. Plan A , Plan B , Plan C

Plan A - Your main goal in your life

Plan B - Your emergency gate
              Means if your plan A failed then also you can survive

              This must be more stronger then plan A

Plan C - Charity plan / Satisfaction plan.
             This will be put in action after 45 years of your life.

              

The main topic for the day was Communication skills and meeting manners.

For the purpose of communication there are four kinds of people in the world which are as follow

1. To the point - short and sweet
2. Descriptive - detailed 
3. Traditional - people oriented
4. Creative - innovative

> How to handle a meeting :

Procedure for business meeting

• Call meeting order
• Establish the quorum
• Previous minutes of meeting 
• Agenda for the meeting
• Any other topic for the meeting
• Vote of thanks
• Adjournment

Something new learned for the business meeting was

1. To discuss on the matter that matter should be the property of house

Some new phrase learned for the business meeting

1. Through you chairman - to get the chance to speak when it's not your turn 
2.  I second -  ready for discussion 

The biggest source to learn management is the Hinduism.

You have to choose your partner very carefully. It must suit your work.

DAY 2

Faculty - Megha Nayar Topic of the day - Interpersonal skills

What do you mean by interpersonal skill : ability to carry work

The way you communicate with the world, the world will treat you the same.

Not only communication but followings will also affect your life

• Trust 
• Respect
• Dignity 
• Validation  - get the sense of satisfaction

What do you mean by a word called "ATTITUDE " ?

It is all about feeling which you feel at morning, noon, night.

Attitude comes through experience.

It is what environment you have created around you.

Validation of your work, task, actions, feelings, emotions should be done by yourself not by others because thinking process differs from person to person.

Always be brave and honest enough to yourself.

After the tea break our batch of 42 trainees were bifurcated in groups of four people in each and task had been given to each group. We had to perform an activity through which we had to show that this are the conversations which we made in our regular life.

My group has been given a situation where unsatisfied customer comes to your office and you have to handle him and settled.

After that we were in same group but from each of the groups, one person has to go on stage and get the list of word from mam and describe the words which were written over that. In this task my group was winner with one small help of dictionary. 

And thus the second day of GMCS ended.

Day 3

Faculty : Janki Mam

First question from mam was "Why all of us are here ?" And after the discussion with class all of us were agreed that "we all are here for money". Next question was like "What is the value of GMCS ?"

Within these 15 days you must develop 15 new skills. Even if you can't get skills you should get idea that these skill are those which I want in my future and can give effort to achieve it. You must have skills to be a distinct person among the crowd.

Difference between game and activity 

Game is only for fun but activity is for some conclusion.

To crack any interview you should be a combo pack to get market advantage 

 In combo pack you should have followings

  - Theoretical knowledge 

  - Soft skills

  - Practical knowledge 

After becoming a CA just be like that kind of a CA which was your expectation while you were in search of your articleship. 

After this discussion turned towards the main topic : Negotiation skill

Negotiation can't be made without knowing other party's identity. 

Negotiation and burgeoning is different things.

Negotiation is for the amt terms , conditions , needs or environments.

First Task of the day

 After all this discussion a task had been given to all with sheet of paper with list of 24 interests and we have to find the 24 persons and take the sign in that interest box who had same interest but to win the task we all were signing without seeing in which box we are signing. That was a golden opportunity to get the idea of others interest. So because of hurrying the main objective was not fulfilled.

Second task of the day

We were in a group of 5 members and every group had been given 5 different things and we have to collect a series any one thing out of that 5 different things from the other group with the help of negotiations. This task is for the improvement of our negotiations skills.

Third task of the day

We were in a group of 5 members and each group was given a newspaper, sheet of paper, gum stick, sketch pen & scissors . With the help of these things we had to make an objects which are used in office. My group made a clock, an attendance register, a name plate and a pen stand. That was a task with full of creativity.

After this, winner group was awarded by the best thing made by us.

Fourth task of the day 

Group activity

We had to give a movie review with the concept of conflict management. 

My group choose 3 Idiots.

I played chatur's role.

Really funny it was for me.

Finally third day ended with full of activity. A good day and learning with activities.

Day 4

Faculty : Payal Sharma

Each and every day every faculty was asking what is the purpose of GMCS and why are you here ??

Some funny answers were like "it is compulsory" or "for eating." :D

But the original and up to some extend proper answer was TO IMPROVE OUR PERSONALITY.

 Personality - how you behave with others and specially with your self.

How can you improve your personality ???

With the help of KSA

K - knowledge : anything you get from the experience 

S - skill (soft) : how you manage the things

A - attitude : your feelings at each and every moment 

Skills are required when there is a conflict and conflict is always good. Because it brushes up your skills and the manner in which you resolve the conflict.

A new concept I learned 

Self Image and Self Concept 

Self Image - Thinking about what people will think about myself ? ?

Self Concept - What do I think about myself ?? What am I ??

After all these discussions mam gave a task in which we all were split in groups of 8 members in each and in total there were 8 groups. Group 1 had to give a topic on which group 2 had to give a speech and so on.

In this activity first of all we had to think about the strength and weakness of other group so that we can give them a topic which would be quite tough.

After a long discussion with group members we gave a topic "Suicide - whether it is a crime ? "

And other group gave the topic as - "Give directions to the film industry" 

Other topics were 

•  Auditions to Indian idols
•  FDI support or not
•  How to get back black money from foreign countries ?
•  Gujarat - A dry state but one can easily get it 

We all performed at our level best. The best performance was from the group to which the topic of "Audition to Indian idols" was given. Performance of Jahnavi and Yash was superb.

After these activities mam gave us a homework. 

And the homework was to write a letter to yourself. Quite difficult it is !! Because no one had done this before.

Day 5

Faculty Payal Sharma

Many of us did the homework ( a letter to self ). Mam collected our letters and gave suggestions individually after reading it.

Mainly in the letter to yourself : what you were ? What you want from yourself, friends, parents and others ? and your SWOT analysis should be included.

After reading our letters mam suggested that we should write at least 200 words per day so that our vocabulary and command over the languages become powerful.

In a month seat with yourself and think that how honest you are with yourself. Seating with ourselves is very difficult because we have to just think about ourselves no single other activity shall be carried out.

Always listen, not hear. 

• Listening is about understanding what the speaker wants to say.
• Hearing is about understanding what you want to understand.

By this you can develop you attitude which has 3 E.

  Experience, Education , Environment.

Day 6

Blue Day

We all had decided a dress code color "Blue". Most of us were in blue.

Faculty discussed about the attributes of the leadership and how to face our principle in our articleship training.

Never say yes when you want to say no.

Never be a Zansi di Rani or Vir Maharana Pratap while doing work. Be patient and be cool enough to handle all the situations in the office.

Always you should do your work with positive attitude.

One thing one should remember that whatever he/she gets in his/her life that all things he/she deserves it. 

Day 7

Faculty : Minoo LakhiyaTopic - Practice and Career Development

This GMCS training is not just a training or course but it is your orientation. You have to build yourself for the new market. You have to create abilities to compete with the market. You have to develop your personality according to what people wants as a CA.

You have to be a versatile because nowadays CA mean a complete business solutions. One person required CA from the starting to the end of any business i.e.  In making of Strategy, taxation, accounting, auditing, statutory compliance etc the role of CA is critical.

After dinner we played Damsharas and enjoyed a lot by giving movie name after searching it in google. The funniest moment was act of Gaurav and movie name was "Aai Bahar fir se" ..!!

After all that was an average day.

Day 8

Faculty : Ankit shahTopic : Practice & Career Development

After sharing his experience with ICAI, he started discussion regarding his job profile and current scenario of jobs and current market situation.

He said if you are in job profile which you don't have interest in then your brain will be depreciated at 100% p.a. So choose your job profile very wisely. If you have an interest in auditing then choose the firm or company through which you can improve yourself even though there is more pay in taxation field.

What do you mean by success ??

 When your father feels proud and jealous on son that means son is successful.

How many of us are having Facebook account but do we know the source of income for FB ??

After tea break sir gave us a task in which we were in a group of 8-9 members and we have to prepare a projected profit and loss statement and balance sheet for three years for new business or new segment. 
First of all we had to decide which business we should choose so that we can prepare almost realistic financial statement. Help of Google was strictly prohibited. :P
After too much of thinking we choose a builder line and prepared financial statement. After this we had to explain what is the strength\weakness\risk factors in this business. It was a good experience and we learned that which problems we have to face while preparing projected financial statements. 

At last one strong suggestion for us was to read at least one business news paper so that we prepare ourselves for the upcoming hard time.

After all that was good day .. !!
